| How Does an E-Cigarette Work?22 April 2016 You know how to whistle, don’t you? You just put your lips together and...blow! Well, an e-cigarette works much the same. It’s really simple – we’ll talk you through. Power UpFirst things first, we need to power up. You can’t run without energy or drive a car without fuel and, similarly, vapourisers rely on a battery to work. This battery will be included with your vape and is rechargeable, so you can use and charge your device much the same as you would do with your mobile phone. Different models have different battery lives. Cigalikes or e-cigs, the smaller vapes which resemble traditional cigarettes, tend to have a shorter life due to their smaller battery size. You can even purchase disposable e-cigs which you simply throw away when they run out of battery. Vape pens and mods are all round more powerful versions of the standard e-cig. When the user inhales on a cigalike, the action activates a component of the device called an atomiser. This heats the liquid in the cartridge via a coil and wick, converting it to a vapour. Vape pens and mods work much the same, although sometimes include a button which you press as you inhale to activate the atomiser. With any electronic cigarette nothing is burnt, only heated.
