Why vape? What is the meaning of life? Why do I cry myself to sleep every night?
All valid questions, but ones which are difficult to answer. For one thing, each person's reason for vaping should be unique to them, as it is, after all, a personal choice. You should hopefully be looking past reasons such as 'because it's cool' and 'because my mate Dave does it and he's a ledge', but even then, it's still your prerogative.
If you're thinking about getting into vaping, but have some reservations and want to know more before you take the plunge, then good on you! It's always best to be prepared, so prepare yourself for some vaping knowledge to help you make that decision.
Is it Better Than Smoking?
The million dollar question. And the answer is... we don't know. At least from a health perspective. Nor does anyone, yet. The most we can say is...probably. When compared to smoking, vaping seems to have several advantages. The ingredients are pretty simple; PG (Propylene Glycol), VG (Vegetable Glycerin), water, nicotine and flavourings. When compared to the list of ingredients in cigarettes this list looks pretty tame.
Here are a few reasons vaping could be preferable to smoking:
No tobacco, tar, carbon monoxide, ammonia, arsenic or various other toxic chemicals found in cigarettes
No bad smells or bad breath (well, not from vaping at least - the rest is up to you)
More cost-effective in the long run than smoking
Wide range of flavours to choose from, for a more enjoyable experience
No combustion reaction takes place (burning creates several chemicals vaping doesn't)
Because You Want to Become a Professional Vaper
So, you've seen those guys in the vape shop, or maybe just on the streets, puffing away and blowing out these huge clouds of vapour. Some of them even enter competitions to see who's the best cloud chaser. Perhaps you idolise these people and want to emulate them, thinking that maybe one day you too could win the International Cloud Championships in California, or the World Series of Vape, in Los Angeles. If you're looking to make your fortune, though, it might be difficult as prize money is still modest. Maybe one day, eh? At the moment, though, going pro probably isn't the best reason to take up vaping.
Because You can Vary the Level of Nicotine
You may have heard some pretty negative things about nicotine, and sure, it's not the best thing to be putting into your body. But then again neither are cigarettes, or chocolate, or alcohol. Nicotine is addictive, no question, but unlike many ingredients in cigarettes it hasn't actually been proven to cause cancer. In moderate doses it's just a stimulant, so being addicted to it isn't massively worse than being addicted to caffeine, say, or the musical stylings of Justin Bieber (actually that one's probably worse..).
Even so, vaping lets you vary the level of nicotine, so it's ideal for people who have moved onto it from smoking. Previously heavy smokers often start with higher concentrations of nicotine in their e-juice, but over time many of them reduce the level as the experience, rather than just the nicotine, becomes the most important thing. We're not saying vaping's good for you, but there are definitely worse things out there.
