Tobacco smoke damages your lungs, impairs your breathing and is the primary cause of premature death in the UK. Vaping uses no tobacco and tar is not present in vapour. Fact No.2: Vaping is Smoke-FreeCigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, including 43 carcinogens which can cause cancer. Very few carcinogenic chemicals have been found in e-cigarettes – vaping simulates the feeling of smoking, but the clouds produced are harmless vapour rather than actual smoke. There are therefore no nasty by-products of combustion present and you don’t have to worry about second-hand smoke dangers.
Fact No.3: Vaping Can be Done With or Without NicotineNicotine is highly addictive but not actually proven to be harmful on its own. There are different nicotine concentrations available for vapers, including e-liquids that contain no nicotine whatsoever. Some users choose to start with a higher dose and then progressively reduce their strength in order to wean themselves off nicotine altogether. Fact No.4: E-Liquids Consist of Nicotine, Vegetable Glycerine (VG), Propylene Glycerine (PG) and FlavouringAll of these ingredients are considered harmless. VG and PG are non-toxic and are actually used as food additives, found within many products on your supermarket shelves. The flavourings used in e-liquids can be either natural or artificial. Fact No.5: The Long-Term Effect of Vaping is Still UnknownAs modern vaping has only taken off in the last decade or so, long-term research into its effects are still underway. Having said that, the short term statistics on vaping are largely positive, with no cases confirmed of vaping-induced diseases or deaths, in comparison with the 100,000 cigarette-related deaths reported every year.
